April 2025 NOVUS Newsletter

From the VLA Cup landing right in our backyard to teaming up with legendary trainer Phil Daru, April was packed with stories that remind us why we do what we do. We showed love to purpose-driven athletes, gave back to our local community, and brought bold visions to life—looking at you, Team White Mamba. Every step of the way, we saw people stepping up, rising higher, and claiming their crown. Here’s a look at what went down this month at NOVUS.

VLA Cup at Impact Athletic Center

This month, the Volleyball League of America (VLA) Men’s East Division Cup took over the Impact Athletic Center—home to our very first retail shop. It was a full-circle moment to see the VLA in action so close to our roots. As the official apparel partner of the VLA, NOVUS is proud to support this fast-growing professional league, fueled by standout collegiate talent, international pros, and passionate athletes pushing the game forward.

Phil Daru Visits NOVUS HQ

We had the honor of hosting world-renowned performance coach Phil Daru at NOVUS HQ. Phil—an award-winning trainer, former pro MMA fighter, and founder of Daru Strong Performance and Nutrition—led an exclusive training session with our team and local athletes, followed by a photoshoot. Known for coaching and empowering elite combat athletes, Olympians, NFL players, and military professionals, Phil’s values undoubtedly align with NOVUS. We’re proud to partner with him and excited to launch his signature apparel line—coming soon.

Claim Your Crown Champions League

NOVUS attended the annual Girls Champions League at Mohegan Sun—an elite tournament series featuring top 12U–18U talent from across the Northeast. As a proud sponsor, we outfitted league staff, referees, and several top teams competing in the event. Champions in each division took home our signature Crown Claimed tees, recognizing the grit and talent on display. With nearly 400 teams and growing momentum each year, this tournament continues to raise the bar—and we’re proud to be part of it.

Giving Back: NOVUS x Schenectady City Mission

Giving back to the local community is a core part of who we are. This month, our team volunteered at the Schenectady City Mission—donating clothes and serving meals to individuals and families in need. The City Mission provides more than just food, shelter, and clothing—they offer long-term support through life skills training, counseling, and spiritual guidance. We’re proud to play a small part in their mission to transform lives and inspire new beginnings right here at home.

Customer Spotlight: Team White Mamba

There’s no mistaking the influence of Brian Scalabrine—NBA champ, Celtics analyst, and now head coach of Team White Mamba. Known for his passion, bold personality, and no-excuses mentality, Scal brings that same energy to his custom gear. He had a vision, and we brought it to life.

On the zoom call, I said I don’t want it to be standard—I want it to be awesome. I wanted to be different and that’s what NOVUS always delivers. The green side is snake skin, the other side is camouflage. Some people look at me like I’m crazy, you guys can’t do those things, but you guys get it done.
— Brian Scalabrine, head coach of Team White Mamba, former NBA player and TV analyst for the Boston Celtics

Athletes on the Rise: David Breazeale

Fresh off a historic senior season with the University of Maine, defenseman David Breazeale is officially headed to the pros—signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins American League affiliate. A two-year captain and leader on and off the ice, David helped the Black Bears clinch their first Hockey East Championship in 21 years.

But what sets him apart goes beyond the game. From reading to local elementary schools to training youth teams, David’s impact on the greater Bangor community earned him a nomination for the Hockey Humanitarian Award. He’s a purpose-driven athlete through and through—living out what it means to Claim Your Crown every single day.
